Hi Guys,

Ieee 1394 Host Controller Driver

Much respect, much gratitude for your expertise and volunteered time. I'm sorry I'm finally forced to trouble you with this forum-post. Please forgive any newbie errors. I've spent weeks hammering StartPage. I've learned much, read even more. But remain stumped. Trying to 'RTFM' has been an exercise in frustration, the wikis seriously Out-Of-Date, or sparse, or both.

In brief, I'm trying to configure my Linux desktop-machine as a Firewire-enclosure. Targetcli seems to make a block backstore but refuses to create a target. Fuller details below (pruned for readability).

Considering the discussions at #22 and https://github.com/agrover/rtslib-fb/issues/37 and elsewhere, I suspect my issue may be a bug rather than the usual 'BKAC' (between-keyboard-and-chair), and you seemed the best place to report my experience. Hopefully it's helpful.

Comments sought. Guidance appreciated. Fixes welcome.

Thanks.

. . . . .

'Could not create Target in configFS.'

Find sata controller driver windows 10. Targetcli refuses to create the target in /sbp.
The fail is the same as command+args in #root Bash shell.

And yes, for this forum-post, xxxxxxGUIDxxxxxx is a substitute for the real number.
For the record, I also tried mkdir directly within a #root Bash shell :

Which seems odd, given the (2012-vintage Linux-3.4, sans-targetcli) direct strategy here :
http://www.studioteabag.com/science/sbp-target/
Mind you, mkdir will not create for me anything higher up the /sys/kernel/config tree either.

So I wonder whether the set-up of the configfs is somehow not quite right.
Is targetcli (installed using yum) involved at all in that set-up?
As you yourselves mused in the links above, maybe Fedora's CONFIGFS_FS=y is somehow culpable?
Compounded by dracut/systemd voodoo? Hyper-threading SMP complications? PCI-card quirks?
Something exposing some other deeper kernel/driver issues?
I wish I could offer more than just ignorant questions.

Sadly, although I can cobble Bash scripts together, I'm neither a coder nor CS graduate.
I grasp certain ideas, but know nothing of the nut-and-bolts which you guys deal with.
Least-of-all kernels or drivers.
So I'm waaayyy out of my depth here.
I'll only be able to help troubleshoot if instructions are explicit and comprehensive.
But I'm willing to do my best, as far as my circumstances and abilities allow.

Worth asking, has anyone actually achieved a JBOD set-up with current software?
The dearth of detail around targetcli + Firewire IEEE1394 is worrying.
Am I trail-blazing here, gentlemen?

Background Details :

It's an HP Pentium-4 minitower PC with a VIA-chip Firewire+USB PCI-card fitted.
Fedora-19-LXDE with plenty of yum-installed extra tools, all updated.
Local custom-configured rpmbuild from 3.11.6 kernel srpm as per Fedora's instructions.
Static ('Y,' not module 'M') support for XFS, NFS, HFSPLUS, and 1394/FIREWIRE.
Configfs seems to be mounted, if boot.log messages are to be believed.
