Guide for Setting up Demon Souls on a PS3 Emulator
As of a few days ago, the PS3 emulator RPCS3 has been updated to grant a massive performance boost to Demons Souls, finally allowing general users to play demon souls on PC with actually playable stability. This will be a comprehensive-ish guide for all users.
There are no hard requirements for running the game but a decent CPU is required (late i5 equivalent or better) to be able to play without stuttering and with maximum stability.
Before you get started, you do of course need a copy of Demon Souls or at the very least the game files. I don't condone piracy and won't be providing any links for Demons Souls ISOs but if you already have a copy of the game and would rather download the files online rather than ripping them yourself you will be able to find them very easily. I recommend you extract the game files from the .iso on an external or secondary drive as it's a decent size (8.13GB) and keeping it on an SSD wont help much with performance.
There are only two files to download, the first is the emulator itself, and the second is the PS3 firmware. Download these and keep the files on hand for later steps.
Find a spot to store your RPCS3 program files in your fastest drive and extract the ZIP file to that location (I recommend C:Program Files (x86). Launch RPCS3 and make a shortcut to it you can easily access.
Once the emulator has finished generating files, click file>Install Firmware and find and select PS3UPDAT.PUP, the file you downloaded from Sony's website earlier.
The emulator will do a whole bunch of extractions and installations that will take 5-15 minutes. Once these are done, you're ready to set up Demons Souls.

Getting the game into the Emulator is the easy part- Just hit the load button and select the folder containing your demon souls files (Likely named 'Demon's Souls - [BLUS30443]). The emulator will load the game's files and likely launch the game. Close it once you get to the title as you need to configure more settings before you play:

CPU:
PPU Decoder need's to be be set to LLVM Decompiler, the fastest method of recoding the excecutable before launch.
SPU Decoder should be set to ASMJIT Recompiler, this is the fastest options and the other options are only needed to be used for other games with more issues with the emulator.
Preferred SPU Threads: This one is a but complicated, I recommend setting to 4 but you can leave on Auto if you're unsure.
Firmware Settings: Leave on Load liblv2.sprx only, we don't need any other libraries.
Additional Settings: make sure that Enable thread Scheduler and Enable SPU loop detection are checked, leave the other options off.
GPU:
Renderer: This will depend on your system. 90% of people are going to want to use Vulkan, it's much, much faster especially when rendering shaders but it does require a decent graphics card. If you have any doubts try both Vulkan and OpenGL and use whichever seems to work better for you.
For Graphics Device, You can't use SLI or Crossfire for RPCS3 so just choose your fastest graphics device.
Aspect ratio needs to be left at 16:9, RPCS3 doesn't support ultrawide and 4:3 monitors should be letterboxed.
Framelimit can be left to off. You can set to 30 if you want but you can't run demon souls at any framerate higher than that so it doesn't really matter.
Anisotropic Filter: if you have a decent graphics card you can set to 16x, it improves the look of the game a lot. Otherwise leave on auto.
Default Resolution MUST BE LEFT AT 1280x720. You can't change the base resolution but you can increase it using the next option, always leave this as is or you risk instability and artifacting or the game may just not start.
Resolution Scale: Set this to whatever the resolution of the monitor you're playing on is. That said, if you have a lower end or no graphics card you'll need to adjust this to the highest you can go without the game going below 30 fps. If you really want to go all out or have a 4k monitor, set this to 300%.
Resolution Scale Threshold: if you're running at 4k resolution or experience issues with the HUD, set this to 24x24. if you're running below that set it to 120x120.
Additional Settings: MUST CHECK 'WRITE COLOR BUFFERS' THIS IS REQUIRED FOR DEMONS SOULS. Also check 'Use GPU Texture Scaling', it improves performance and rarely causes issues.
